Welcome to the UMaine Process Development Center (PDC) website. We hope
you find the information useful.
The PDC has collaborated with industrial partners, small businesses, and entrepreneurs for over 25 years. Our full-time staff has many years experience in forest products research and development and are specialists in chemical and biological engineering, wood science, chemistry, and in product, process, and prototype design. Whether your goal is developing a novel product, commercializing new technology, or implementing cost reduction strategies our staff can work with you to develop an effective project plan.
Our modern pilot equipment and extensive laboratories are ideally suited for evaluating new raw materials, screening coating formulations, or producing product prototypes. The Center can effectively leverage your company’s existing technical resources by providing services ranging from manufacturing process audits to focused problem-solving assistance. In addition, our staff can provide a wide range of analytical and specialized pulp and paper testing services. As a client of the UMaine PDC, you can expect a high level of technical expertise, quick turn-around, and strict confidentiality.
