As a land and sea grant institution, the University of Maine is
required, by its charter, to provide education, research and public
service.
Our reputation as an educational
facility is well established in the State of Maine, and in the
Northeastern United States. Maine's Chemical and Biological Engineering
graduates, in particular, have established a solid quality reputation
for performance in industry and in research organizations.
Recognition of our faculty research
capability is growing. Sensor technology, wet pressing,
coating, and papermaking and pulping technology are typical areas of
expertise among our faculty. New research areas include
biorefinery, nanotechnology and microfibular cellulose.
Now, with the availability of a
world class pilot facility, we are able to offer a unique service to the
industry with particular emphasis on pulp and paper manufacturing
and affiliated businesses.
